Additional information
In the final part of all Courses in Machico (stage 1), there is a bridge that crosses over the Ribeira dos Socorridos and has, on the upper deck, two traffic lanes (a pedestrian lane on the right side and a car lane on the left side, marked in the image with magenta arrows). Along this deck there is an impassable wall that cannot be crossed.
To make it clear that it is possible to pass underneath (marked in the image with a red arrow), we decided to use the symbol “building underpass” (grey hatching – IOF symbol no. 512.3) at that location, while on the top level we continue to have this impassable wall.
In the second image, the magenta and red arrows identify the corridors of passage that can be used by the orienteers.

Middle distance
Map: Fanal (Porto Moniz)
Terrain: Fanal is the oldest plateau in the region, which stands out for the existence of centuries-old Tis that date back to the discovery of the island and for the “enchanted fog” effect. It has two distinct areas of relief, the plateau with very rapid progression and the slopes with the impressive endemic Laurissilva forests.

At the stage 3 in Camacha (Sprint WRE), we will use artificial barriers. It will be mapped using “708 Out-of-bounds boundary” symbol and, to increase awareness, “709 Out-of- bounds area” will be used. On the terrain, athletes can expect 2 lines of yellow & black tape glued to the ground (to increase visibility). Also 2 persons in each place with reflective vests to advice and if necessary disqualify any athletes that pass on those places. We need to place the tapes on the floor and not high because, in some places, traffic will keep passing through. Bellow, you can see examples:
