Madeira Orienteering Festival 2026

World Ranking Events

The Sprint Distance race on January 10th (3rd stage), organized by AD Camacha, and the Middle Distance race on January 11th (4th stage) will be WRE for the Elite levels. The use of GPS watches will not be authorized in the Elite categories.

Elite classes

During the registration process, Elite athletes must provide their IOF World Ranking ID. All athletes in these classes must also register for the IOF Eventor.

Bib number

The use of the MOF bib is mandatory for all federated athletes.
There will be check-in on January 7, 8, and 9, during which the participant kit — including the bib number — will be provided.Only athletes with the bib correctly placed on their equipment will be permitted to start.

SI-Card Change

Changes to the SI-Card number must be made at the Event centre before the races, and athletes with changes that have not previously been validated at the Event Centre are not permitted to depart.

Control System

Control System will be Sport Ident. Contactless Air+ will be available on every stage. Athletes without SIAC can use a regular SICard. SIAC rent will cost 3€.

Start times

No changes allowed in start times for requests on the competition days. On open classes and youth classes (T10, M/W12) a start station will be used for all participants. However, there will be a list with start times previously generated, that should be followed, so there won't be an athletes overflow at any minute and allowing the transportation system from the Arena to the Start to run smoothly
All stages will have start lists, except for the race that counts for the City Race Euro Tour, which will have a mass start at 16:30.The open and youth categories (T10 and H/D12) will all start with a “START” from 16:45 onwards.
The start times for the WE and ME categories in the stages counting for the WRE will be determined based on the athletes’ positions in the World Ranking as of December 30, 2025, in the respective rankings. Specifically, the Sprint Orienteering World Ranking will be used for Stage 3, to be held in Camacha on January 10, and the Orienteering World Ranking will be used for Stage 5, to be held in Prainha on January 11.

Race time limits

The race time limits are:
▪ Sprint: 50 minutes
▪ Middle Distance: 120 minutes
▪ City Race 150 minutes

Fair Play

At the end of each course, athletes can keep their map, therefore Fair Play is requested to all participants.

Results and prizes

MOF: The individual final result of the MOF will be determined by the sum of points obtained in the three best stages. The team ranking will be determined by the sum of points obtained in the four stages. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 in all categories and to the 3 best clubs. All athletes registered in the youth categories (T10 and H/D12) will receive a souvenir, regardless of their ranking.

WRE: The individual final result for elite athletes will be based on the 3 best stages of the event, excluding the race that counts for the City Race Euro Tour. Prizes will be awarded to the top 5 athletes in the DE and HE categories across the two WRE stages.

Sport insurance

Athletes affiliated in FPO, as well as national and Portuguese resident non-affiliated athletes are covered by POF insurance.
Athletes affiliated with the Spanish Orienteering Federation (FEDO) will be covered by the insurance provided by the Spanish Federation.
Foreign participants and/or non-residents in Portugal are covered by the Portuguese Orienteering Federation’s insurance, which is €4 for three or more days of competition. Insurance is added to the registration fee.

Traffic Indications

The GPS coordinates of the parking locations and their distance from the arenas will be presented later in this document for each stage. There will be signage with arrows from the parking to the arenas and from the arenas to the start (or pre-start). It is important to follow the instructions provided by the Organization for parking or driving purposes. Traffic will only be closure on Stages 3 and 4 in the area surrounding the arena (Largo da Achada, Camacha)., so pay attention while crossing roads if necessary.

Rules

The Competition Rules are set in accordance with the FPO Competition Rules 2026 and in the WRE stages according to the IOF regulations. In case of any omission in the FPO regulations, the IOF regulations will be applied.

Complaints

Complaints, whether verbal or written, must be presented to the Event centre within one hour after the athlete completes the respective course.

Competition: T10, M/W12, M/W14, M/W16, M/W18, M/W20, M/WE, M/W21A, M/W B, M/W35, M/W40, M/W45, M/W50, M/W55, M/W60, M/W65, M/W70, M/W75, M/W80, M/W85, M90.


Opens: White, green, yellow and red.

Arenas

In all arenas, athletes will have access to necessary infrastructure such as a Event Centre, Informatics, WC, Babysitting, First aid, Results and Speaker. Bar service and baths will not be available at any of the arenas.

Children's Space

Babysitting services will be available in all stages of the event. To access this service, a request must be made on OriOasis during the registration process. Each child will be given a bracelet which must be completed by their guardian. The child's guardian must pick them up before the start of the prize-giving ceremonies.

Hard floor

The organization will make hard soil available from the 9th to the 11th of January, at a symbolic price. The organization will provide classrooms for hard floors at the Camacha Secondary School (same location as the Pavilion where the quarantine will take place, 32.677366, -16.848437) from January 9th (6pm) until January 11th (10am), with a symbolic cost of €2 per night.

The request for hard ground must be made on the OriOasis platform when registering for the test.

Model Event

The model event will take place in Poiso, Chão das Feiteiras, Machico between January 8 to January 9, 2025. More information later in this document.
